Studio Policies: FAQs
How much practice is required?
Unlike sports, dance, or art classes, piano lessons are unique. Regular practice is imperative to learn how to play proficiently. Please encourage practice at least 5 days a week at a regularly set time. A good guide for practice time is [age] x 7 = minutes per week.
What happens if the student forgets to bring his books to the lesson?
We can still have a lesson even without books. The teacher will use the lesson time to sight-read new music, learn new concepts, and review past theories.
What should be expected in the first lesson?
The first lesson is used to acquaint the student with the piano and for the parent, student, and teacher to evaluate. During the first lesson, the student and the parent/guardian will be introduced to the expectations required of them. Please bring or send any completed paperwork and current sheet music or books.
What is expected of the student?
The student is expected to attend the lessons and practice at home during the week (parental supervision is helpful). An assignment sheet is sent by the teacher so the student knows what was discussed during the lesson. Young beginners should have parents/guardians assist with what they were sent home to practice. Parents/guardians should be aware of the student's practice at home.
What materials need to be purchased?
88-key piano or keyboard at home
What is the payment schedule?
Invoices are emailed on the 28th of the month with the balance of the following month. Tuition should be made no later than the 10th and must be paid in full. Payments can be made directly online through the monthly invoice.
What is the policy on missed lessons?
Each student will be given 1 makeup credit each month that does not carry over to the next month. If a student will miss a lesson due to illness, family emergency, etc., a makeup credit can be used anytime during the month.
A rescheduled lesson will be offered due to a student’s planned absence. It will not count towards the 1 makeup credit, but it is instead considered a reschedule. In order to reschedule, the teacher must be notified at least 48 hours before the lesson.
If the teacher is absent, lessons will be rescheduled, and it will not count towards the makeup credit for the month.
What is the policy on terminating lessons?
We understand that circumstances change. If a student will be terminating lessons, one months’ notice is requested.
